Letters to the Editor January17th Donald Mahoney - Thielman committed to our children I’m pleased to support Jeff Thielman’s candidacy for state representative. I first got to know Jeff through my alma mater, North Cambridge Catholic High School, which today serves many immigrant and low-income young people from the greater Boston area. The school was in a difficult financial situation in 2001, and then Jeff came along with the idea of converting the school to the Cristo Rey program in which students work to earn tuition and gain real world job experience. Jeff carefully guided the school as it transitioned to this model, and today 280 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are getting a quality, college preparatory education. He’s done this same work at 18 other high schools across the country. More than 4,300 young people are studying under this educational model this year, and thousands more will have a chance for a brighter future because of Jeff Thielman’s work. The School Committee is one of the toughest boards to sit on in our town. From that position Jeff has learned a great deal about the need for a partnership between the state and local government. His work in Arlington and elsewhere has prepared him well for the State Representative position. Donald Mahoney
