It was with great pleasure that I recently learned that Jeff Thielman was running for re-election to the school committee. It is not only Jeff’s great depth and breadth of knowledge of all things educational or his achievements as an educational activist but even more his strong personality and presence are what's most needed on the school committee right now. Many might find the budget cuts that have been and will likely continue to be made, a daunting task. However, Jeff remains enthusiastic in his unwavering commitment to the Arlington schools. Unlike some towns, Jeff and the Arlington School Committee have been very effective in balancing the academic needs of students with learning disabilities, Arlington’s growing English as a second language students and the needs of the general student population. As a former substitute teacher in the Arlington school system, I frequently saw Jeff visit the schools. Jeff also attended the annual Veteran's Day Celebration at the Ottoson Middle School.

Jeff is now one of the most senior members on the school committee. He has the experience capital needed to provide continuity on the school committee during these fiscally challenging times. Let’s keep Arlington’s schools strong and viable. Let’s re-elect Jeff Thielman to the school committee.
