Leanne Fitzgerald - Thielman is a Voice for Our Children
I am writing a letter of support for Jeff Thielman in his bid for re-election to Arlington's School Committee. Having lived in Arlington my entire life and now having the pleasure of raising my own children here, my daugter who currently attends Ottoson Middle School and my son — at Peirce School, I am invested in ensuring that Arlington's schools continues to provide a superior education.
Jeff has been a strong and true voice for Arlington's children since 2003 and that voice needs to continue to be heard. Some feel as though a School Committee member is elected to represent adults and teachers; I take the opposing viewpoint and feel that it's only about the kids. Jeff is committed to moving forward for our children. I am a proud supporter of his ideals.
There has been a single divisive issue — that of the Ottoson debacle, which has remained at the forefront of School Committee meetings for much too long. We need School Committee members who are willing to take the lead in extinguishing this issue as a prevailing theme in any School Committee meeting. Jeff has shown he has what it takes to lead the way. His integrity, ethics and values are exactly suited to keeping our children in focus at all times. He has shown his willingness to be transparent despite repercussions, which is a commendable asset and one that should be valued by our community, not vilified. We do not need to add members to the School Committee whose sole intent is to continue a game of she said/he said in this long drawn out drama.
Personally, I'm done with the entire issue, but it's clear that some in the teacher's union and their supporters are not. How this attitude benefits our children remains to be explained by the candidate who is being supported by the teacher's union. I only know — it isn't good and it needs to stop. I am sure I speak for many who say enough is enough.
Please join me in casting one of your two votes for Arlington's School Committee for Jeff Thielman. A voice for our children in a time of fiscal uncertainty and questions about ethics and values.
